ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS: Bellatrix & Xira Ali have been
belly dancing for a little over 5 years in Pavlov’s Hips, one of Kansas
City’s premier belly dance troupes. Before finding belly dance, Bellatrix
was a Lighting Designer for live theatre for over a decade, earning
her Master’s Degree in this field. Her many years of lighting dance
performances (and befriending drag queens) have found their way to
her expansive makeup case. Xira, through the guidance of her hair-wise
friends, started wearing fake hair at an early age & instantly became
intrigued with the possibilities and ease of use. Little did she know
that her experience would someday translate to the stage! After speaking
with many local belly dancers, Bellatrix & Xira knew that they possessed
knowledge that they could (and should!) share with their fellow dancers.
After all, your costume should not stop at your neck!

Can't wait until October? Want to sponsor our workshops in YOUR area? We'd love to come to you! Email us at bellatrix@belliphat.com for more information.

Schedule & Class Descriptions:
9:30am-10am -- Makeup 101
What Your Mama Never Told You
Learn everything you always wanted to know about makeup - but your mom never told you & you were too afraid to admit to the MAC lady that you didn’t know. We’ll start with the order that everything should be applied, then move on to application techniques for everything from blush to bronzers (and which of those you should be using), rounding out the class discussing how you know what colors and techniques will look the best with your face shape and coloring. Covering everything from why using brushes and primer are oft-unknown key elements to why foundation is often misused (and perhaps is completely unnecessary! Gasp!), this class is packed with vital information whether you’ve never worn makeup or you started digging into your mom’s makeup bag when you were just a little girl.
Bring your something to take notes on!
10:45am-12:15pm -- Makeup 102
So You Wanna Be A Performer?
Now that you know how to put on makeup, including which products and colors you should be choosing (since you’ve just taken the Makeup 101 class!), let’s translate that knowledge to the stage! Find out why your normal “evening” makeup isn’t enough for the stage/performances. Learn the differences between Cabaret, Tribal and Fusion when it comes to performance makeup, including what key elements transcend all genres. Discover theatre techniques to help open your eyes, pout your lips & make your facial features pop where you want them to & fade where you don’t. Have issues with false eyelashes? Not after this class!
Bring your current makeup kit, at least one pair of false eyelashes, makeup remover, a small mirror (preferably on a stand) & something to take notes on!
12:45pm-2:15pm -- Performance Hair 201
How Do You Keep All That Crap On Your Head?
Let’s not forget about hair! This workshop will cover everything you’ve always wanted to know about all performance hairstyles – from fake hair to hair decorations, including how to keep all of that stuff on your head while you’re dancing your heart out! And don’t be fooled into thinking that “hair” is all about Cabaret…….Fusion, ATS/ITS/Tribal – they all should be expressed all the way to the top of your head! From “Fake Hair 101” to “Diva Tips & Tricks”, whether you’re a beauty shop newbie or a regular at the hair stores, there’s something in this workshop for everyone!
Bring any hair pieces or decorations that you may already have, a small mirror (preferably on a stand) & something to take notes on.
2:30pm-4pm -- Makeup 202
The Eyes Have It!
Ever wonder what color(s) you should wear on your eyes? Tried time & time again to get the perfect “smoky eye”, to no avail? Then this is the workshop for you! They say the eyes are the windows to the souls – and that’s true in dance as well – which is why we’ve devoted an entire workshop to them! Your audience connects to you & your dance through your eyes, so make sure that they are as alluring, entrancing & visible as they can possibly be. We’ll discuss how you should apply your makeup based on the shape of your eyes & face, what colors are going to best accentuate your features, and what products will keep your eye makeup from sliding off of your face. Then we’ll have a little hands-on time practicing the time-honored technique of “Arabic/smoky eyes”.
Bring your current makeup kit (including a non-pencil eyeliner & an eyeshadow in the same color), makeup remover, a small mirror (preferably on a stand) & something to take notes on!
**We advise keeping all receipts for any makeup you buy specifically to bring for any of these classes, as we will be making product recommendations & you may want to return some items.
